Source truth: - Journal Entries - Source Documents - Posting and Reversal
Daily Accounting
Daily accounting covers routine transaction recording.
- Attach source documents to every entry where applicable.
- Ensure journal entries balance before posting.
- Use explanations that make the transaction clear.
Manual entries
Use a manual journal entry when the accounting effect is known and approved, and the work is not better handled by a sales, purchase, inventory, banking, or other source workflow.
Before posting, review:
- accounting date;
- debit and credit accounts;
- amounts;
- explanation;
- source evidence when required by policy.
Manual entries should begin as drafts. If a reviewed entry changes before posting, review it again.
Posted entries are corrected through reversal or adjustment, not silent editing.
Source support
Material transactions should have support that explains:
- who;
- what;
- when;
- amount;
- business purpose.
Treat missing support for material items as a review exception.
