The chart of accounts classifies transaction activity.

• Use account codes consistently.
• Account codes can be changed, but the account identity remains the same.
• Account numbers are a convention, not the accounting rule.
• Avoid deleting used accounts; retire them instead.
• Use replacement accounts when retiring accounts that should no longer receive activity.
• Import existing charts through review before committing them.
• Review account setup before posting material entries.
